Minnesota meteorologists have been kept busy with the advent of severe weather this week. Thankfully, the Twin Cities have been spared the worst of the storms. Northwest of the metro, a brief tornado touchdown was reported by trained storm spotters in Sedan and Brooten with funnel cloud sitings in St. Cloud on May 1.
Hail has turned out to be the primary product of these storms the past few days with Mankato receiving golf ball…even tennis ball size hail. Wowza.
Rainfall totals have varied greatly across the area. The Twin Cities received 0.78″ since May 1. Amounts over 1″ were reported where some of the strongest storms moved through.
Looks like we’re in a stagnant weather pattern. Thunderstorm will be possible each day through the weekend with high temperatures dropping into the 60s. The greatest severe threat will remain over southern Minnesota.
